As part of our commitment to give back to the local community, River Bend Station’s North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) chapter hosted site tours for Baton Rouge Community College students on Friday, October 27 and Friday, November 3. The students were part of BRCC’s Process Technology Degree Program (PTEC) and most were just beginning their first year.

Justin Frost, a Sr. Operations Training Instructor, led the tours and discussed how electricity is made in a nuclear power plant, the difference between radiation and contamination and how nuclear power is safe, reliable and environmentally friendly.

The students had the opportunity to tour the Main Control Room Simulator and the Energy Center and participate in RP dress-out. The day ended with a drive around the site to discuss the functions of the major components of a nuclear power plant.

Many of the students noted that it was their first visit to an industrial plant and they appreciated the opportunity to visit RBS. The program administrators thanked River Bend for taking the time to educate their students about nuclear power and look forward to collaborating with Entergy for future PTEC training opportunities.
