Board of Directors Election Winners!

The NAYGN Board of Directors election ended at midnight on March 25 and we are pleased to welcome our newly elected officers!

  • Vice-President: Monica Beistline
  • Canadian Operating Officer: Matthew Mairinger
  • Professional Development Officer: Jenny Gourley
  • Treasurer: Daniel Deckman

Each officer will serve a two year term beginning in May 2020 except for our Vice-President.  Monica will serve a one year term as Vice-President, transition to President in May 2021 and then become Past-President in May 2022.

Thank you to everyone that voted in this election! We are so excited about the future with you all and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on our nuclear communities.

National Conference Update and Future Outlook

Unfortunately, our national conference has been canceled.  If you had already registered for the conference, NEI will issue full refunds to all registrants automatically.  Based on the volume of refunds they will be processing, refunds may exceed their typical 7-10 business days processing time frame.

With that being said, this may be the perfect opportunity to attend your regional conference and / or a neighboring regional conference.

In addition, we still have big goals for 2020 and we want you to be a part of it!  Our president, Lee Causey, published our organizational plans for the remainder of this year and how we all can help lead the virtual charge.  Check out our latest Go Nuke article to read more.

Stepping UP! NAYGN Member 3D Prints Face Shields

Our very own NAYGN member, Mark Gardiner, is currently 3D printing face shields for health care workers out of his own home!  This is such a great way to help those fighting the virus on the front lines.  If you have the resources and would like to do the same, check out the 3D design here.

We’d love to hear what ways you are helping out during this time. Whether it be sewing masks, printing face shields, working an outage, volunteering, or just staying home!  Please share your stories with us at or tag us on social media.

Social Distance Best Practice

The Dominion-Innsbrook Chapter has been hosting weekly lunch chats and game nights over Zoom during their work from home time. These video chats have been a great way for NAYGN members to catch up, talk outside of work, and try and maintain their sanity! They’ve played games online like Codenames and Scattegories to keep chats lively and fun for members.

Is your chapter doing anything creative for your members during this time of Social Distancing? Please let us know @

Work from Home Tips and Tricks

Working from home can be a great arrangement, with some adaptation. If you’d like to get some ideas on how to optimize your work-from-home setup and routine, there are some TED talks on the subject you may find interesting.

Also, it’s important to get up and move around when you’re stuck at home!

Breaking up the monotony with a good view or pleasant video can make a big difference in your ability to focus and stay positive.

Virtual Tours of National Parks

It’s also a great time to pick up a new book, learn something new, or dive into a new hobby!

  • CM Library has a whole system of ebooks (you can get a library card online too)
  • Baking guides for sourdough, pies, scones, gluten-free, etc.

If you have any other tips or tricks you’d like to share, let us know!
