Recap: NAYGN Partners with Nuclear Matters for Legislative Hill Days

On February 18th, 2026 Nuclear Matters hosted it's first state legislative advocacy day of the year in Lansing, Michigan. Twenty advocates from across the state - including many University of Michigan students studying nuclear - had the opportunity to meet with state legislators representing their districts, the districts where nuclear plants are located in the state, and with legislators sitting on the energy committee in the Michigan legislature. Advocates were excited to talk about nuclear progress in the state - thanking legislators for past support and encouraging the ongoing and future growth of the industry in Michigan. They shared their own stories, asked thoughtful questions over lunch, and left knowing they had an impact.

Nuclear Matters hosted the event, but the team worked hand-in-hand with in-state representatives from DTE Energy, Holtec International, and Indiana Michigan Power. Nuclear Matters also shared the invite with ANS, WIN, NAYGN, Mothers for Nuclear, and the American Conservation Coalition.

On April 15th, 2026 Nuclear Matters and NAYGN were on the ground in Springfield, IL for an advocacy day at the Illinois legislature. Nearly 30 advocates participated in legislative meetings, including Constellation employees, UIUC students and Nuclear Matters grassroots advocates. Advocates were able to meet with a bipartisan mix of lawmakers - more than 15 in total.

NEI, Nuclear Matters, and Constellation all worked together to make the event happen. We collaborated with our friends at WIN, ANS, MFN and ACC to invite them to attend, but the biggest group that showed up was the US WIN student chapter at UIUC.
