Best Chapter in Diversity and Inclusion

The Diversity and Inclusion Award recognizes a NAYGN chapter’s outstanding commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency within their site and community. This award highlights efforts that address key areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), lead initiatives to increase awareness, and foster an inclusive environment. The submission should showcase a single event conducted in 2024 that demonstrates promotion of diversity and inclusion and described in detail to satisfy the voting rubric. The event may be something that is held annually by the chapter (e.g. an annual DEI seminar), but duplicate submissions for an event that has previously won will not be accepted. Each submission must highlight a distinct event that has not previously won this award.

Clarification and Criteria:

  1. The Event Promotes Diversity, Inclusion, and Cultural Competency
    • An activity that addresses underrepresentation and promotes equal opportunities within the chapter and the broader community.
    • An event that encourages participation from diverse groups, including marginalized, and underrepresented communities in the nuclear industry.
    • An educational or awareness activity aimed at improving understanding of diverse perspectives and cultures.
  2. Measuring the Impact of the Event
    • Metrics such as participant feedback, changes in diversity demographics, increased engagement from underrepresented groups, or improved inclusivity ratings in surveys.
    • Examples of how the event has led to tangible results, such as increased retention of diverse members or more inclusive chapter activities.
    • Use of qualitative or quantitative data to assess the effectiveness of the event, such as pre-and post-event surveys or tracking diversity metrics over time.

Suggested Nomination Guidelines:

  • Event Description: Detail the specific event the chapter has undertaken to promote diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency.
  • Impact and Outcomes: Explain how the chapter has measured the success of this event. Provide data or feedback that demonstrates the effectiveness in fostering a more inclusive and culturally competent environment.
  • Reach: Highlight how the event has created impact within the chapter or broader community. Discuss the reach.
