To recognize an executive who has gone above and beyond to support NAYGN by 1) Furthering NAYGN with their executive peers, 2) Supporting both their local and continental chapters of NAYGN (including financially), 3) Spending time mentoring the organization.
The Hairston Award winner is determined solely by the NAYGN Core and it is not necessarily given out every year.
Clarification and Criteria:
- Furthering NAYGN with Peers
- The individual should advocate amongst their peers for NAYGN initiatives, encouraging other executives to get involved.
- The individual should share the successes of NAYGN within executive meetings
- Supporting Local and Continental Chapters
- Financial support provided to local and/or continental chapters of NAYGN, such as funding for events, conferences, or other initiatives
- Participation in events like the NAYGN Continental Conference or support for local chapter meetings and activities
- Mentoring the Organization
- Individual spends time and effort mentoring members of NAYGN through one-on-one mentoring sessions, participation in mentoring programs, or providing advice and guidance to young professionals in the nuclear industry.
Suggested Nomination Guidelines:
- Promotion of NAYGN: Highlight specific things the executive has done to advocate for NAYGN or other executives that have been involved as a direct result of the nominee’s recommendations.
- Support of Chapters: Provide examples of financial or personal support and participation in NAYGN events at the local and continental level
- Mentoring: Provide testimonials or examples of successful mentorship given by the nominee.

Advocacy for NAYGN | This section evaluates the executive’s efforts in promoting NAYGN among their peers. It looks at how actively they advocate for NAYGN initiatives, encourage other executives to get involved, and share the successes of NAYGN within executive meetings. Higher scores are given to those who consistently promote NAYGN and lead by example. | 0–5 |
Chapter Support | This section assesses the support the executive has given to both local and continental chapters of NAYGN. It considers the scope and frequency of their participation in events AND financial support, including funding for events, conferences, or other initiatives. Higher scores are awarded to those who actively participate and support both local and continental chapters. | 0–5 |
Mentorship | This section evaluates the time and effort the executive has dedicated to mentoring members of NAYGN. It looks at their participation in mentoring programs, one-on-one mentoring sessions, and the guidance and advice they provide to young professionals in the nuclear industry. Nominees who consistently mentor and provide valuable guidance receive higher scores. | 0–5 |
Scoring Guidelines:
- Total possible score: 15 points
- Nominations scoring below an average of 3 will not be considered.
Evaluation Process:
- Each criterion is scored independently by members of the NAYGN Board of Directors.
- Final scores are averaged across reviewers to ensure consistency and fairness.
