Recap: NAYGN McMaster Chapter’s Nuclear Industry Night 2026

Submitted by Arya Ebadi

In early 2026, the NAYGN McMaster Chapter hosted its 6th Annual Nuclear Industry Night. With over 280 attendees, the evening achieved the largest turnout for the Industry Night to date and demonstrated the growing interest in careers across the nuclear industry.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Markus Piro (McMaster University), who set the tone for an evening focused on professional development, industry insight, and meaningful connection. Attendees then heard from an impressive lineup of industry speakers.

Presentations were delivered by Neil Mohan and Yousif Diwieri (Ontario Power Generation – OPG), Peter Keech (Nuclear Waste Management Organization – NWMO), Marc Miville (Westinghouse Electric Corporation), Karen Fritz (WSP), and Sriram Suryanarayan (Kinectrics). Each speaker shared an overview of their organization’s role in the nuclear industry, along with their own unique career journeys. These personal perspectives highlighted the diverse pathways available within nuclear and reinforced that there is no single “right” way to enter the field.

Following the presentations, the evening transitioned into an open networking session that brought together students and experienced industry representatives. This year’s event welcomed representatives from WSP, Bruce Power, Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), Ontario Power Generation (OPG), Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Kinectrics, AtkinsRéalis, BWXT Canada Ltd., Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), Framatome, Laurentis Energy Partners, McMaster University’s iLEAD Office, McMaster University’s Nuclear Operating Facilities (NOF), and the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC).

This diverse representation gave attendees the freedom to explore many corners of the nuclear industry in a single evening. The conversations with the industry professionals allowed participants to ask questions about the specific organizations and learn about the skills and experiences valued across different roles. These discussions helped clarify career interests and opened doors to co-op and employment opportunities.

At its core, this event exemplifies NAYGN’s networking pillar by creating a space where students and industry professionals can build meaningful professional relationships. With its record‑breaking attendance and strong industry engagement this year’s Nuclear Industry Night shows the continued growth and impact of the McMaster NAYGN chapter!
