With a Little Help from Our Friends: Utilizing Atomic Allies

Article written by NAYGN President Tori Bayush

The nuclear industry’s strength extends beyond its technology to the people and organizations working every day to engage communities, build trust, and advocate for nuclear energy.

At the recent Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) Communications Forum, communicators across the industry explored innovative strategies and learn what's on the horizon. As part of the forum, our NAYGN President Tori Bayush was invited to speak on the panel “With a Little Help From Our Friends: Utilizing Atomic Allies,” which focused on how organizations can better leverage existing platforms and partnerships to strengthen advocacy, expand outreach, and amplify a unified voice—without duplicating effort.

The session was moderated by Kay Foley, Program Lead at Nuclear Matters, and also included perspectives from:

The session highlighted the role of “Atomic Allies”—organizations already established for engagement, education, and communication across the nuclear space. These include professional societies, advocacy organizations, and community focused groups, each bringing distinct strengths, audiences, and credibility. When these organizations work together intentionally, they can reinforce shared messages, broaden reach, and present a clearer, more trusted narrative around nuclear energy.

The conversation reinforced an important message for the nuclear community: progress accelerates when organizations break down silos and work together using the strong platforms already in place.

2026 NEI Communications Forum

NAYGN is seeing more partnerships form where engagement is closest to the community, with chapters coordinating events, outreach activities, and messaging alongside peer organizations. These grassroots efforts help organizations connect more effectively with educators, policymakers, and the public—meeting communities where they are and building trust through consistent, aligned communication.

NAYGN thanks NEI for hosting the Communications Forum and our partner organizations for their continued collaboration.

Most importantly, we thank our NAYGN members and volunteers, whose engagement and leadership help build connections and strengthen our collective impact in communities across North America.
