Do you work with a particularly great mentor—someone who’s gone above and beyond to promote the development of younger employees? NAYGN wants to know!
Excellence in knowledge transfer should be rewarded. For more information, check out this brief one-pager about the SENSEI Award. Use this link to make your nomination.
Public advocacy is a core value of NAYGN. It is important to keep our voice heard among local, state, and federal legislators and to further our cause of maintaining a secure supply of clean energy for generations to come. Use this letter as a template to write to your representatives and tell them of our collective successes, especially our new TIP Award.
Hearing from Our Members
One of the great things about our organization is that NAYGN can be what you make it. We are all as much a part of the process of ensuring the success of our industry and security of its future as we want to be. Mimi Wilde, president of the Chalk River (Canada) Chapter (pictured above) had this to say about their recent Chapter Kick-off meeting.
Over 70 young nuclear professionals attended the NAYGN Chalk River Chapter Kick-off event at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories April 24 and discussed the importance of developing young professionals to promote the nuclear industry. Chapter president Mimi Wilde spoke about how to become a member and promoted the chapter’s first social outing to view the New Fire documentary. A networking event followed the speakers with chapter members networking with members of Women in Nuclear and the Canadian Nuclear Society.
If you would like assistance starting an NAYGN chapter or revitalizing an existing (but dormant) one, please contact your NAYGN vice president at VP@NAYGN.org for more information.
Last Words
Professional Development, specifically in leadership, is an important aspect of NAYGN’s mission. See this article from Harvard Business Review on the topic of women in STEM and what those successful among them have in common.
See this article in Greentech Media where it is asserted that closure of three FirstEnergy nuclear plants, in Pennsylvania and Ohio, would wipe out more zero-carbon generation than that achieved by all the mid-Atlantic region’s wind and solar power put together.
