On Sept. 20, NAYGN Durham Chapter hosted its annual Profiles in Leadership seminar.
Attendees included NAYGN members from the Bruce, Durham and UOIT chapters. The purpose of the Profiles in Leadership seminar is to share the perspective of leadership with the young generation by inviting leaders throughout the industry to share their experience and journey to success.
The guest speakers included:
- Dr. John Barret, President & CEO, CNA
- Jane Travers, Vice-President, Strategic Operations, OPG
- Lisa McBride, Manager, Stakeholder Relations, OPG, and WiN-Canada Vice-President
- Lorraine Gray, Superintendent, Hydro One
- Tracy Primeau, Shift Manager, Bruce Power
- Andy Owen, Operations Assistant Manager, OPG
This year’s theme was Inspiring and Motivating Others. Jane spoke about A OneOPG Career, her journey from Nuclear to Renewable Generation and shared key lessons that she learned throughout her career which lead her to success. Lorraine, Tracy and Andy shared their leadership experience, the challenges they have encountered along the way and gave suggestions to attendees on how to improve leadership and management skills.
Almost 90 members from NAYGN Chalk River, Kinetrics, Bruce Power, UOIT and Durham chapters came out for a regional networking session. Members got to know each other and also filled in postcards advocating for nuclear in preparation for Post Card Push Day. Afterwards, the group made its way down to the Rogers Centre to watch the Blue Jays take on the Tampa Bay Rays. Even though the Jays failed to win the game, the event was still a success with members already looking forward to the next regional event.
