First CNS X NAYGN Networking Event Fosters Connections in Canada

The elegant setting of C Banquets in Mississauga was the backdrop for a successful networking event hosted by the Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) and NAYGN Canada region on May 8th. The evening brought together around 75 attendees from both organizations, creating a vibrant atmosphere of collaboration and learning.

From 6:00 to 9:00 PM, participants engaged in structured and open networking sessions, sharing insights and experiences from the nuclear industry. The event kicked off with a keynote speech by Amy Gottschling, Vice-President of Science, Technology & Commercial Oversight at Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL). Amy shared valuable career advice, emphasizing three key points:

1. Do what you love and excel at: Amy encouraged attendees to pursue their passions and leverage their strengths. She explained that when you focus on what you truly enjoy and are good at, your success will grow exponentially. This approach leads to greater job satisfaction and professional achievements.

2. Find a personal value and use it as a guide: Amy highlighted the importance of identifying a core personal value, such as a growth mindset, and using it to steer your career development. By aligning your professional goals with your personal values, you can create a fulfilling and coherent career path that resonates with your true self.

3. You can't engineer people—build communication and interpersonal skills: Amy stressed that technical skills alone are not enough for career success. She emphasized the need to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills, as these are crucial for effective teamwork, leadership, and building relationships in the workplace.

The positive reception from attendees highlighted the event’s success in fostering meaningful connections and professional growth. The CNS X NAYGN Networking event was more than just an opportunity to meet industry peers—it was a celebration of the collective expertise and enthusiasm driving the future of nuclear energy. With such a strong turnout and positive feedback, both organizations are looking forward to more collaborative events in the future.
