Building Tomorrow’s Nuclear Leaders At Calvert Cliffs – Constellation

For the Calvert Cliffs NAYGN Chapter, developing the next generation of nuclear professionals extends beyond the plant's operations. It requires meaningful engagement with students, mentorship for emerging talent, and opportunities to connect academic learning with real-world experience.
This spring and summer, Calvert Cliffs employees and NAYGN members participated in several activities focused on workforce development and professional growth, reinforcing our commitment to cultivating future leaders in the nuclear industry.
On April 10, Calvert Cliffs NAYGN welcomed students from the College of Southern Maryland for a station tour that provided firsthand exposure to nuclear operations and engineering principles. The visit offered students an opportunity to learn about the systems, processes, and career pathways that support the safe and reliable generation of carbon-free electricity. For employees involved in the tour, the experience also strengthened communication and leadership skills by translating complex technical concepts into engaging and accessible discussions.
Later in the month, on April 24, students from the University of Maryland visited Calvert Cliffs for a more technically focused tour. Hosted by the NAYGN Chapter, discussions highlighted plant systems, operational strategies, and the connection between engineering theory and practical application. These conversations provided valuable opportunities for employees to share their expertise while demonstrating how classroom knowledge is applied in a highly regulated and technically demanding industry. The visit also helped strengthen connections with future engineers who may one day contribute to the nuclear workforce.
Building on these outreach efforts, Calvert Cliffs NAYGN recently launched its intern mentorship program, welcoming interns for a mentorship kickoff meeting focused on professional development and career growth. The mentee-driven discussion encouraged interns to explore career goals, reflect on their current experiences, and identify opportunities for continued learning. By fostering open communication and meaningful mentor-mentee relationships, the program helps support the development of young professionals as they begin their careers in the nuclear industry.
Together, these activities reflect a shared commitment to outreach, education, and mentorship. Whether engaging students through plant tours or guiding interns through the early stages of their professional journeys, Calvert Cliffs NAYGN continues to invest in the people who will shape the future of nuclear energy.
