NAYGN: Wilmington Chapter Has First NAYGN Drawing Winner
GEH NAYGN Congratulates the National NAYGN Drawing Contest Winner: Dixon Moss
The GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) chapter of North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) visited four local elementary schools in October 2013 during National Nuclear Science Week to teach students about nuclear power and to encourage them to enter the 15th annual NAYGN Drawing Contest. NAYGN volunteers presented nuclear facts, led the students in a skit to teach them how nuclear power is generated to power their homes, and also did a Mentos, Coke, and balloon demo to mimic a boiling water reactor. The visits culminated with the introduction of the drawing contest and encouragement for each student to enter.
Drawings were collected from the schools and GEH NAYGN awarded prizes for the top 5 drawings in each school. From the pool of local winners, the top ten submissions were sent to compete in the national contest. Drawings were voted upon by NAYGN members with a record high of 6,113 votes from all over North America. GEH NAYGN is proud to announce that Dixon Moss, a 5th grader at Gregory School of Science, Math, and Technology, has won 3rd place in the national drawing contest! This is the first national level winner of the annual drawing contest that the GEH NAYGN chapter has produced. Below is a picture of Dixon’s winning drawing and a picture of him receiving his award.

Prizes to Dixon included a customized t-shirt, stickers, science books, GEH swag, and wall calendar with Dixon’s drawing printed on it. Prizes to the Gregory School library included a science kit. nuclear energy books, and more science books. Dixon’s teacher made cupcakes for the whole class and Dixon’s family to celebrate the special occasion.
