UCalgary Students Come Together for Nuclear Trivia Night

On Friday, March 28, the University of Calgary chapters of the North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) and the Nuclear Energy Students Community (NESC) co-hosted a nuclear-themed trivia night. The event, held from 5 to 7 p.m. on campus, brought together students from a variety of programs—including astrophysics, physics, and engineering—for an evening of friendly competition and conversation about nuclear science.

Students from across disciplines arrived ready to test their knowledge on topics ranging from nuclear fission to fusion.

Participants joined in teams of two to compete in a live Kahoot quiz featuring questions on nuclear energy, reactor technology, radiation, and current developments in the field. Some attendees from astrophysics shared a particular interest in nuclear fusion, highlighting the interdisciplinary interest in nuclear topics.

NAYGN UCalgary President Aditya Baishnob and Vice President Michaela Gilks take part in the trivia challenge.

"It was amazing seeing the diverse knowledge on nuclear from students attending the event," says NAYGN UCalgary President Aditya Baishnob. "It’s always a treat to have students from different departments come together over shared interests."

NESC and NAYGN leadership facilitated the event, which also featured pizza and soft drinks. The winning team - Ghaith Abu-Rub and Jonah Richards - took home prizes after securing the highest score in the final round.
