Our hearts go out to our Black members in the North American Young Generation in Nuclear. Our Black communities have suffered immensely in the United States and Canada. Not only now, in the aftermath of the tragic killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery and others, but throughout history. The Board of Directors has been listening to the discussion and reflecting on how our organization can do better to address systemic racism. Our members are the young voices in the nuclear industry and we encourage our members to have discussions with their company leaders, coworkers, family, and friends to recognize and rectify systemic racism.
We’ve recognized through our Career Report and feedback from our members that we are not a diverse organization and we need to do better. We are taking action to change that and, as a first step, forming a Diversity and Inclusion Committee. This committee will be responsible for reviewing our current state and forming actions for how we can be better in addressing systemic racism in our organization, in the nuclear industry, and in the communities we live. We understand this committee is only a small part of what we need to do.
